I liked this movie as a kid...but then I happened to only watch the last 10 minutes!

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

I like this movie quite a bit. It has a decent western atmosphere (as opposed to Gwangi, which feels like it was shot on a Spanish dude ranch) and although the action doesn't kick in until the last...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

I have a nice "gray market" DVD-r of this film (complete with graphics printed right onto the disc). My advice is to scan through the movie and just land on any part that hints at the monster. As soon...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

There are a few quick shots of the creature scattered throughout the movie (including a cool one of the T Rex walking away with a steer in its mouth). I would advise patience. One of the "rules" of...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

I'll take the fifties boring stuff over the present day goring stuff any day. The pacing made the monster far more effective than he might have been had we seen too much of him.

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

I'm not saying they should have *shown* the monster throughout the film. Not at all. But they could have *talked* about him a little bit! Last time I watched the film, about 40 minutes into I thought...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

The first hour of BEAST is almost indistinguishable from the most humdrum Hollywood Western you ever saw; well, it's worse, in a way, because it was shot in Mexico and therefore none of the character...

It would ave been a lot better if they'd let Willis O'Brien animate the dinosaur and keep to his original storyline.  Apparently he was barred from the studios.  What on earth is the matter with film...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

Don Shay's article on O'Brien in Cinefex magazine covers the backstory of Beast pretty well. For those who haven't seen it, Shay's article is still the best thing written about O'Brien that I've ever...

Re: BEAST OF HOLLOW MOUNTAIN

I saw this within the last 3-4 months on cable (TCM maybe?) and was very disappointed. The plot, acting, directing, all were poor, IMHO. The stop motion animation was sub-par. I don't need to see it...
